BOTC Bermuda Passport

Applications for adult BOTC Bermuda Passports from those residing in the United Kingdom may be submitted online for a fee of £82.50. To do so, please click here.

Those resident in the United Kingdom wishing to apply for or renew an adult BOTC Bermuda Passport may also do so using a paper application form for a fee of £93.00. Please note this is the same application form as used for a UK Passport.

You can collect an application form by visiting your nearest Post Office that offers the Passport Check & Send Service. For more information on the Check & Send Service, please click here.

Note: In Section 8 “More Information” it is advisable to indicate that you are submitting an application for a BOTC Bermuda Passport.    

Note: Those applying for a BOTC Passport using the method above will receive a GBR coded passport with no reference to the Government of Bermuda. Your nationality will note ‘British Overseas Territories’; this is a BOTC Passport. If you wish for the passport to contain a BMU code and display Government of Bermuda on the cover, you may nominate an individual resident in Bermuda to submit an application directly to the Department of Immigration on your behalf.

Urgent Renewals

BOTC passports are eligible for the 1 week Fast Track service for renewing a passport urgently. Please click here for further information on the 1 week Fast Track Service.

Note: The minimum processing time for your first passport is 6-8 weeks. Renewals may be received in approximately 3 weeks, unless you are utilising the 1 week Fast Track service.

British (UK) Passport

Applications for an adult British Passport may be submitted online for a fee of £94.50. To do so, please click here.

Those resident in the United Kingdom wishing to apply for or renew an adult British Passport may do so using a paper application form for a fee of £107.00.

Lost or Stolen Passport

A lost or stolen passport must be cancelled as soon as possible through the UK Government website by clicking here. This helps reduce the risk of someone else using your passport or identity.

Emergency Travel to Bermuda

This section applies to those seeking travel to Bermuda in times of personal crisis who do not hold a valid passport.

For Ordinary Residents of Bermuda:

Ordinary residents of Bermuda (including work permit holders, PRC holders, and spouses of Bermudians) are eligible for a Travel Waiver Letter from the Department of Immigration that allows travel to Bermuda without a passport.

Please contact our office to see if you are eligible for a Travel Waiver Letter. Please note that Bermudians currently residing in the UK are not eligible for a Travel Waiver Letter.

The requirements for a Travel Waiver Letter are:

• Full name and date of birth
• Airline itinerary
• $40.00 fee.

A Travel Waiver Letter usually takes up to 2 days to produce.

Alternatively, ordinary residents of Bermuda who have not already applied for a passport renewal but urgently need a passport for travel must contact the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office to discuss their circumstances and options available (for example, an Emergency Travel Document).

For Ordinary Residents of the UK:

It is advisable to contact HMPO and apply for an urgent passport renewal on compassionate grounds. If you are eligible, they will be able to accept an Online Premium or Fast Track application without an appointment (if you have not already applied for a passport) or process your application as quickly as possible (if you have already applied for a passport using the standard service).

To contact HMPO, you can:

• Visit an Application Processing Centre (APC) in person with an application form.
• Visit the passport advice and complaints page on GOV.UK and either:
  • Phone Teleperformance (TP)
  • Fill in an online enquiry form and send it to TP.

HMPO considers the following compassionate reasons why a customer may urgently need a passport:

• You need to travel because you (or a relative or friend) have a serious illness or had an accident.
• You need to travel because a relative or friend has died.
• You need to travel abroad for medical treatment (this does not include cosmetic surgery).
• You have travel arranged by a charitable or religious organization.
• You are the victim of a crime that resulted in the theft of your passport and have pre-booked travel within 1 week.
• You work, or are about to start work, in an industry that requires you to have a passport (this includes, but is not limited to, those working offshore or in the haulage or aviation industry).
• You need a passport for identity reasons (for example, to apply for a mortgage, open a bank account, or apply for a job) and do not have any other identity documents you can use.
• You already submitted an overseas application and need a passport to access health or social care or because your visa is about to expire.

HMPO does not consider the following as compassionate reasons why a customer may urgently need a passport:

• Last-minute holidays.
• Business travel (except customers who work, or are about to start work, in an industry that requires them to have a passport).
• Weddings or honeymoons.
• Lost or expired passports.

If you have any doubts, you must send a guidance query to Guidance and Quality, Operating Standards.

HMPO requires evidence to show you urgently need a passport for compassionate reasons, such as:

• A letter to show you need to travel because a relative or friend has died, including:
  • Evidence of the relationship to the deceased
  • The death certificate (or a photocopy of it)
  • Other evidence that a higher executive officer (HEO) agrees you can accept (if the customer does not have, or cannot provide, a death certificate).
• An original letter from a doctor, hospital, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development official, minister of religion, police, or a person acting in an official role that confirms you need to travel for compassionate reasons. The letter must:
  • Be on letterhead paper
  • Be signed
  • Include your name
  • Include the name of the person who is ill or has died
  • Include the relationship between you and the person who is ill or has died.
• A signed and dated letter from an employer (or prospective employer) that:
  • Includes the company’s name, address, email address, and phone number
  • Confirms an offer of employment (if you are about to start work)
  • Confirms what your job role is (or will be)
  • Confirms you need a passport for your job role.
• A signed statement from you that confirms you need a passport for identity reasons, and a letter, agreement, or contract from an organization that shows they are doing something to suggest you need a passport to prove your identity. For example, from:
  • A bank or building society showing you are trying to open a bank account
  • A mortgage application showing you are trying to buy a property
  • A rental agreement showing you are trying to rent a property.
• Evidence to show your passport is stolen, such as a police report or crime reference number and evidence of pre-booked travel (in cases when a person is the victim of a crime and has pre-booked travel within 1 week).

• There’s no time to provide an original letter.
• You can verify the email address online.
