Commonwealth Games 2022
Seventeen athletes represented Bermuda in the Commonwealth Games 2022, held in Birmingham, UK. The delegation arrived at the Opening Ceremony in their customary pink Bermuda shorts, led by joint flag bearers Dage Minors, who competed in Men’s Athletics in the 800m and 1500m distances, and Emma Keane, the first female squash player to represent the island at a Commonwealth Games.
The Games began in spectacular fashion for Bermuda, with the first day seeing our triathletes compete in the individual competition. Bermuda’s medal hopes rested on reigning Olympic and Commonwealth champion Dame Flora Duffy, who did not disappoint by claiming her second Commonwealth Gold and becoming the first triathlete in the history of the Games to win back-to-back titles. With this being the second medal ceremony of the Games, Bermuda had a short-lived stint near the top of the medal table.
Bermuda’s second podium of the Games came from bronze medal winner Jah-Nhai Perinchief in Men’s Triple Jump, jumping a distance of 16.92m on his Commonwealth Games debut. The Games then concluded with Kaden Hopkins, who impressed in the Men’s Road Race and Men’s Individual Time Trial Cycling events, waving the Bermuda flag to lead the group in the Closing Ceremony for Birmingham 2022.

While in Birmingham, Bermudian swimmer Emma Harvey also had the opportunity to meet UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who visited athletes from each Commonwealth team to hear about their experiences at the Games and learn more about sport in their respective nations.
Our Bermuda team included competitors in athletics, swimming, cycling, squash and triathlon events, and over the course of the Games, Bermudian athletes set personal bests and national records in their respective sports.
