Bermuda Thanks Sir David Amess

Sir David Amess was hailed as ‘one of Bermuda’s biggest cheerleaders’ by our Premier the Hon. E. David Burt JP MP, as the Premier laid a wreath to the MP in the House of Commons.

The Southend West MP chaired the Britain-Bermuda All-Party Parliamentary Group All Party since its inception in 2015.

Bermuda’s Premier, the Hon E. David Burt, JP, MP, paid tribute to Sir David ‘for ensuring Bermuda had a voice in the UK Parliament’.

‘Sir David was a great friend to Bermuda – dedicated and hard-working – someone who did his best to raise our cause in the wider world,’ he said.

‘We are devastated by his death and saddened beyond measure for his family, which is why I wanted to lay a wreath in Parliament on behalf of the people of Bermuda.’

Premier Burt was accompanied by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons (pictured), at a small wreath-laying ceremony in New Palace Yard.

The Premier was in London for the annual Overseas Territories (OTs) Joint Ministerial Council, which brings together political leaders from the OTs and UK Ministers.
